Operating System (OS) OR Platform Dependency

In  this case whenever the source code is compiling, it generates machine code (executable code/native code) which will be generate targeting the operating system on which the compilation is made because the responsibility of executing machine code these on the hands of operating system. So machine code generated for one operating system cannot execute on other operating system. For example: C++ on Windows operating system when Source Code Compile then we gets Machine Code (executable file) In the above case because the source code is complied on windows operating system the generated machine code can execute only on windows operating system. Note: java virtual machine (JVM) is also dependent and common language runtime (CLR) is also dependent but intermediate language (IL) & Byte code only two things are independent.

Operating System (OS) OR Platform Independency

In this case whenever we compile the source code it gets converted into intermediated code (semi-finished code) which can be carried to any operating system for execution. They special software takes the responsibility of converting intermediate code into machine code according to operating system. Note: Independency is available under both java and .net languages.

Independency in Object Oriented Programming(OOP’S) languages

In case of Independency in java language: java language on windows operating system when Source Code Compile then we gets Byte Code but special software takes the responsibility of converting byte code into machine code according to operating system. In java the semi finished code is known as Byte Code and the software which converts byte code into machine code is known as Java Virtual Machine is capable of converting byte code into machine code according to the operating system on which the execution takes place. Case of Independency in .NET: .NET on windows operating system when Source Code Compile then we gets machine code. .NET is a collection of languages which allows to write the source code in any .NET language but ones we compile it gets converts into Common Intermediate Language (CIL) can be executed on any machine with the help of Common Language Runtime (CLR) which takes the responsibility of Intermediate Language (IL) code into machine code specific to operating s...
